Following our last post, we’d like to take the discussion one step further.

What’s the minimum number of luminaire families needed for a typical roadway lighting project?

To be honest, a single street lighting family—with multiple wattages and optical distributions—can often do the job.

Add a landscape lighting family, and the project becomes even better, both functionally and aesthetically.

But when we consider the overall lighting experience, the minimum is often three:

• One street lighting family.
• One landscape lighting family.
• One floodlighting family.

Each serves a different purpose.

Together, they create a more complete and coherent public space. Streetscape guidance commonly emphasizes coordinating different lighting elements to meet both functional and aesthetic objectives, rather than relying on a single fixture type.
